Q&A

Dear Friends,

We arrived over 2 and a half years ago to serve here at Word of Life Hungary. Chris’ position changed each year, and we had two kids meanwhile. Life is not boring! 🙂

I thought it was time to have a Q&A again. We did one before we left for Hungary, but now that we are here, maybe you have different types of questions of our ministry/life.

Here is what we would like to do: If you have any questions about our ministry or life here in general, write a comment here, or on our facebook page, or send us an e-mail.

We will post all the questions here (without names) and will answer them. Check back later this month to see what questions others asked, or to see the answer to your question.

Q: How fast did the girls learn Hungarian? Did they have any language issues?
A: 2 months after we moved back to Hungary Amy started 1st grade, and Haley started preschool. I was worried about Amy going to school right away as she didn’t speak Hungarian yet. I spoke a lot of Hungarian as they were growing up, but neither of them wanted to speak it. Amy could only say a few sentences in Hungarian at that point (mostly when she talked with my parents), but in a few months she caught up with the others.
Now you can barely tell that she spent 6 years of her life in the States.
Haley also learned Hungarian fairly fast and now I hear more Hungarian at home from them than English.
Joshua speaks both languages, but his vocabulary is greater in Hungarian.
I am so thankful that I can speak to my children in my mother tongue!

Q: Where do you live?
A: We bought a house in Tóalmás, the town the Bible Institute is in, in 2017 and moved in in 2018. We bought this house with the purpose of hosting a lot of fellowships.
We have students, staff, and guest teachers over around 5 times a week. I love having people over and getting to know them!
It’s wonderful to think about how in early 2017 we had no idea where we are going to stay at once we get to Hungary and not that many months later we could actually buy our own house! God surely provides!

Q: Do you have a good church community? Did you make friends?
A: We attend the Baptist church meeting on our property. Children’s church is led by our Bible school students. We knew a lot of the members from before, and we made new friends since.
We have a lot of friends here, and a few families with whom we are really close. Our kids have plenty of children to play with inside and outside of school.

Q: What are your future plans?
A: Lord willing, our new BI director arrives this coming school year. Chris will remain the COO of the BI for at least another year, and we will see where he will be most needed after that. He would like to stay at the BI, but maybe he will have a different position.
I am planning on working from campus in a few years once the boys are in preschool. For now, I am staying home with the boys.

Q: How is your support doing?
A: The next few months we are planning on reaching out to our friends and asking them to consider joining our team.
We are very grateful for all those praying for us, supporting us, being a blessing to us through different means, and we would like to have more of you join our team!
