March Highlights

Part of what we would like to do by writing this blog, is to give you all a better understanding of what is happening in our lives, and the lives of those around us, here in Tóalmás.
Even better is if we can make you feel what it is like here. Well, this month has gone by so quickly, that the best way to make you understand and feel that is by writing a very very very quick post.
This strategy may or may not have anything to do with the fact that the first day of the month is almost over…
But here are 3 quick highlights of the month:

  • Though I do not get to know the Guest Teachers at the Bible School as well as I did when I was the main translator (back in 2009-2011) – this month I spent more time with them than usual, either in rides to or from the airport, or at lunch, or even when I occasionally fill in to translate a few class-hours or chapel services. It always astounds me how these faithful teachers, pastors, and professors give of their time and resources to come train the next generation of Christian leaders. They are a great inspiration to our staff and students!
  • Our students had their Spring Break in the middle of March. This meant that I had more time to get caught up on some work (e.g. planning for next shool year’s Student Ministries) I have had a hard time getting to with the usual busy nature of the average school week. But what was even more exciting to me, was to see how so very many of the students here decided to use their Spring Break to take missions trips to various countries in Europe! These guys and girls have so much energy and passion! So encouraging!
On a related note, some of the students have been working together with the pastor of our local Baptist church, and have started a weekly English Club for 5th-8th graders in the school in Tóalmás! This is on top of their already busy schedule!
  • The second year students have been taking a course titled: Biblical Communication – which deals with communicating/preaching/teaching the Bible. One of the requirements of the course is to prepare and give a 10-minute devotional. I was asked to help grade the guys.
Now here’s the awesome thing: Thiago, one of our students from Brazil, is not always comfortable with his level of English – especially when it comes to preparing to speak in front of others. He very strongly asked to be able to present his devotional in Portuguese, but the course instructor decided that Thiago should try it in English. It was definitely a lot more work, and a lot more stress, but I honestly say that in my opinion, it was in the top 3 of the presentations I heard that week from the guys! Seeing our students who are willing to work hard to improve and grow… it definitely helps motivate me to want to serve them better, as they seek to learn about how to serve God better.

On a personal note of good news, my Mom and Dad just flew in from the US this afternoon – and boy, are their arms tired… My Dad will be here for 2 weeks, teaching 3 different courses, while my Mom will be spending a week here getting some much needed quality time with her grand-kids!

And looking forward: Lili is excited to be involved with the Summer Camps again this year: she will be handling the registration of the campers, and everything that goes along with that – taking applications, communicating with parents, and all sorts of related administrative work. Lili loves doing this type of work, and with Joshua being a bit older (over 4 months old now,) she is itching to be even more actively involved with the things going on at WOL Hungary.

Happy Easter! Christ is Risen!
